Different ways to use Symbaloo (Part 1)

Symbaloo is most commonly used as a personal startpage.  By setting it as your homepage on your browser, you can start with your online favorites everyday. Over time we have seen it progress and used in many other ways.  Each week we will be posting a different way that Symbaloo can be used. Come back weekly to get more details.

Online portfolio

This week we are introducing the option of Symbaloo as an online portfolio. This is great for freelance writers and bloggers or even designers who use a portfolio to present their work. You can have all of your work published on one webmix and just send your potential clients the link. Below is an example from Daniela Bolzmann.

It’s an easy and creative way for Daniela to share her online social media portfolio. Daniela compiled links to her blog, online social profiles, and social media groups all in one webmix. This enables her to send just one link to potential clients.

Email us if you would like more information on how to set this up.

With the Chrome bookmarker, you can easily add the website you are surfing on to your Symbaloo page, just by clicking the extra button that appears in your Chrome browser.

OC Foodie Fest 2010

Symbaloo is excited to announce that we will be participating in the Orange County Foodie Fest. This event is Orange County’s first gourmet food truck event taking place Saturday, August 28th at the Honda Center in Anaheim.  The one-day event will be the ultimate foodie destination, featuring the best in popular mobile eats combined with a unique forum to showcase local entertainment & shopping to help support local charities.

This event wouldn’t be complete without the use of the official OC Foodie Fest Webmix created by Team Symbaloo. Attendees now have access to all the trucks tweets at once even if you are not on Twitter. See what the trucks are tweeting leading up to, during and even long after the event. Click this link and then click “Add this Page” to save and use the webmix.

We have also teamed up with the OC Foodie Fest to offer a chance to win tickets and get discounted price on tickets by signing up for a free account with Symbaloo and creating your very own webmix about anything you want. Details for the contest and discounts can be found on the OC Foodie Website here.

Social Media Day Orange County

Team Symbaloo US participated in the World’s first official “Social Media Day,” an international event proclaimed by Mashable and hosted by the Orange County Register on June 30th, 2010.

Kimmie Chann, Daniela Bolzmann, Kyle Bodovitz and Benny Luo were on hand to demo a custom webmix entitled “Social Media Day OC” which aggregated all the Twitter feeds of all the speakers, vendors, taco trucks and attendees.

The event featured a panel of local social media guest speakers and taco trucks galore. Over 450 people were in attendance and Symbaloo was the only interactive demo on site. The event was successful in it’s mission to bring together local social media enthusiasts to celebrate the change and impact that social media has had on everyone’s lives both professionally and personally. We were very happy to be invited to this event and look forward to participating again next year.

Symbaloo update

Symbaloo-update

During the past few weeks, the Symbaloo development team has worked hard on making Symbaloo even more convenient. Various settings have been added, allowing you to set your Symbaloo to specific preferences. Our test team reviewed the new features and we’re ready to proceed with the update today.

Which features can you expect to see after the update?

  • Switch off the text clouds permanently
  • Set a webmix (page) as default if Symbaloo opens
  • Start always with the searchmodule of your preference in the center
  • Open links in a new, or in the same window
  • Copy tiles to another webmix (instead of only moving)

In total the developers worked on 62 fixes, so you might notice some other improvements. We hope you enjoy the upgrade.
